Goin Live.

Me and Jamesy (right) on the bpm

Friday night (19th) kitted up for my first public, live gig! Did a warmup set from 10-12pm for a duo that started at 12. Bit of a trek from my north shore abode, a place in South Syd, known as the "Peaky" to locals. Had some friends support me, with the gf taking some happy snaps :)

CDJ1000's + Rane 2 Ch.

Battled a bit of nerves towards the beginningworking out thier live setup and it's workings, but ultimately got my head around it, to what ended up being a busy last hr, dropping some great electro and prog house mixes, which was well recieved by the bouncing crowd :D

Here's 2 tracks I let loose in the last 30 mins:

Read all about this humble, JDM box that is the underrated KE70- with impeccable photography from Kevin-Yiu this old school gem really shines.

(I believe this car is also up for sale too, contact on jdmstyletuning.com > Classifieds > Cars > KE70YO.)

Enjoy!

Digging the 'Wayfarer' look.

"The Ray-Ban Wafarer is a design of sunglasses manufactured by Ray-Ban since 1952, when their design was a revolutionary break from the metal eye wear of the past. Wayfarers enjoyed early popularity in the 1950s and 1960s. Though the sunglasses had faded from the limelight by the 1970s, a lucrative 1982 product placement deal brought Wayfarers to their height of popularity. Since the mid-2000s, the sunglasses have been enjoying a revival." - Wiki.

Cited a few sources of inspiration, itching my interest in these retro shades- Love em'. Pocketed a pair of RB 3241's (Wayfarers) last night, Diggin' it.

Throbbing & Clicking..

One of the only ways I can describe this amazingly deep yet, club appropriate track. Featuring peaks of electro glee and click, Alex Metric has done a magnificent job on this original ver. of Block Party's song- 'One More Chance', please enjoy whole-heartedly!.

Lowen!

Last week hit up the Lowenbrau, nestled in 'The Rocks' - Sydney, my first experience there and certainly won't be the last, the atmosphere was amusingly immersive, a great place to share a drink or a few litres with friends. Uber fun.

"Whatcha Say?"... Dub?

'Dubstep' is a fairly underground genre that's really only just started to make it's way out of the it's low profile scene to a larger audience of the blogosphere and a minority of clubs. I like 'Dubstep', certainty not as much as House or Electro, but I'm getting there with it. It's paced rhythm and sonic bass gaps specifically pockets it into it's own genre, differing so much from mainstream structure.

Here's a taste of 'Dubstep' from Enigma with a remix of 'Imogen Heap's 'Hide and Seek' - which you might recognise from Jason Derulo's - 'Whatcha Say' currently on the charts. I can't stop listening to this track, had it on in the car all weekend, it's flowing in it's genre specific pulses yet chilling at the same time, if this is what 'dubstep' has to offer then I'm liking it.

Deadmau5 Love.

*WARNING!, this is gonna be a BIG post :D*

If you havn't already heard about the guy wearing the big mouse head, then I suggest you need to get your finger out wherever it is and onto the pulse of the music world. I first found Deadmau5 about a year and a 1/2 ago, heard a snippet of his remix of Morgan Page's 'Longest Road' and really liked the melodic build up of layers and breakdowns, a key feature of the 'Progressive House' genre, which I know now but didn't then. Soon after I did a bit of searching I had tracks like 'Slip' and 'Brazil', both amazing examples of his work- True pieces of 'Progressive House' in it's purest definition, shortly there after buying 'Random Album Title' and eventually 'Lack Of A Better Name' upon it's release.

Towards the end of 2009 I grabbed myself a 'Stereosonic' ticket, which in my honest opinion was a big let down and certainly not what it could've been due to poor organisation by the event managers and lack of ability to facilitate numbers- Then that night, 10pm hit and for the first time ever, I saw that big blue mouse head of his- bopping behind his laptop to 'FML' at the very beginning of his set, mixing and cutting to 'You Need A Ladder'. To me, he made 'Stereosonic' worth it. That week I knew he was still in Sydney, so I grabbed x2 Tickets to his last show before leaving Sydney at the 'Metro' on George St.

The afternoon, hours before the 'Metro' show, Deadmau5 did a suprise appearance at Virgin Megastore in the City, it was amazing to be up close whilst he worked his 'Ableton' magic wielding his full headset, grinning from big ear to ear. Luckily I was able to get my album signed as well as a poster I snatched off the wall straight after the brief gig.

Live @ Virgin Megastore, George St.

No Mau5head.

Signing my stuff :D

That night 'Metro' went off the minute he walked out, it was 'Stereosonic' all over again, except only better and this time for 2 solid hours! He dropped 'Sometimes Things Get, Whatever' cue'ing the robotic lyrics making the crowd go spastic, later chilling the set with 'Strobe' and 'I Remember' were also memorable highlights. 'Ghosts'N'Stuff' always a crowd pleaser being so currently popular and finally after walking off on the stage he pulls out 'Longest Road' for an encore which absolutely made it- bringing it back to where it all began for me.

Metro Mau5 Madness!

FF Drift!?

Last friday night, me and a friend were on our way back from a macca's run...

Heres the math: sweeping slope+raining+night time+handbrake = FF drift :D

Dirty&"Danger"ous.

Dirty and distorted is they way 'Danger' rolls, in what i can only describe sounds like an ominously dark "daft-justice". Danger- the moniker of Franck Rivoire, an electro producer from Lyon, France. His influences stem both from video game music and 80s soundtracks, his aim in his productions is to paint pictures of particular settings and time periods via his music. I really dig the album art, the logo screams Daft Punk, whilst the image touches upon the nostalgic setting of 'Thriller' in my opinion (maybe it's the red jacket?). Danger also masks himself following in trend of various other artists such as 'The Bloody Beetroots' & 'Deadmau5'. Sinister electro?- enjoy...

6 hours and 715km's later.

Chillin' at Lake Burley Griffin.

So a few days ago i went on a day trip down to canberra- the nation's roundabout, and when i say that i mean it considering theres FA all to do there, the main reason why I only ever wanted to go there as a kid was to buy fireworks and now they've been banned as of mid 09' it kinda killed the intrest in going. Not all was terribly though i did spot some JDM flavour in the suburb of Kingston while i was there- in the short space that i was, I saw a really clean champagne FD Civic, looked to be an 07' or 08' model, pretty simple mods but it was the amazing wheel fitment that got me, the gleaming set BBS's sat perfectly flush, just had to snap it ;).

"I'm Bloggin This Shit Bitch!"

Been playin this track a fair bit recently, the douchey lyrics are quite amusing to sing along to, the song itself was created to satirize the stereotypical miami lifestyle, which sets a fun, let's get f**cked up tone. I prefer this version to "Let The Bass Kick In Miami" which im sure you've bound to have heard in clubs or radio way too much. This ver. has Pitbull in it whom im not typically a fan of, but in this case he breaks up the middle of the track, which surprisingly i quite like.
